The Beatles formed in 1960 in Liverpool . The rock/pop band’s styles varied from rock and roll to psychedelic rock. The band was made up of George Harrison (vocalist and lead guitarist), John Lennon (vocalist and rhythm guitarist), Paul McCartney (bass and vocalist), and Ringo Starr (drummer and vocalist). They were one of the most successful bands in pop history and sold over a billion records worldwide. They put out over 40 albums and singles in the UK and received 15 number one albums which was more than any band in history.
| The Quarrymen, a blues/jazz group were formed in 1957 by Lennon and McCartney joined in July of that year. Harrison joined the band on lead guitar in 1958. The Quarrymen’s original drummer, Colin Hanton, left the band in 1959. The band proceeded to have a high drummer turnover and name changes, settling to The Beatles in 1960 to honor The Crickets and Buddy Holly. Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr) joined the band in 1962 after drummer Pete Best was dismissed. The Beatles broke up in 1970. |
